Savor Every Minute

Monday, August 13, 2012

All I know is that I'm going to savor every minute I have with  my parents.

When Mom texts me five times in a row because I didn't answer .1 seconds after she hit send, I'm going to try and not get frustrated but instead, I'll calm her nerves and give her a call. When dad tries to give me WAM (walking around money), even those times that I don't take it, I'm going to be thankful that he wanted me to have it.

Neither of my parents had the opportunity to have as much time with their own moms and dads as I've had with them. And I can't imagine a day without having them around. I can't imagine a day without being able to talk to them. I don't want to imagine it.

Even after I'm married, living in a new house, I'm going to savor every minute I have with my parents because there's no way I want to face a day without them. Even after I'm married, living in a new house, I'm going to make a point to see them, make sure they're okay and always hold them to our weekly double dates (but Justin and I will be able to treat them). Even after I'm married, living in a new house, I'm expecting nightly texts from my dad asking me what I made for dinner and morning texts from my mom that say, "You up yet?"

There's no better time I have than sitting on the big comfy couch, watching Glee Project every Tuesday night with Mom and Dad (plus commentary) ... all I would need is Justin to make it a perfect night. I don't want to know what it feels like to not have that opportunity, so I'm going to savor every minute I have now.

They've always been my best friends and the ones I trust the most. I just hope they know how much I love, appreciate and enjoy them. I just hope I reflect what they've taught me in how I live my life and the choices I make in the future. I just want to always make them proud.

  1. My aunty lost her dad 2 years ago, and her mum just found out she has quite serious cancer and she said all this to me too... savour your parents while you have them both and they are healthy! So many people do not realise how much they will miss them until they are gone.

A really lovely post, I like this one.
